  • Apple execs explain Apple's position in the AI race & how it isn't necessarily 'behind'

Personally I like Apple’s take on AI. it’s isn’t trying to spoon feed me what IT WANTS. it’s a tool I0  control and choose what I want to do.

Everyone else’s ai tries to almost remove the user from their work. That’s wack. I don’t want some unimind consensus machine forcing its whims. I want to direct and control. And even not use ai at all most of the time. I didn’t invest time into learning skills just to turn off my brain and hit cruise control - then just settle for whatever the system threw up on me.

A lot of ai is useful and it seems that’s what apple is focusing on.

Even so, they actually ARE a bit behind in execution quality. Some of the photo fixing is kind of embarrassing compared to the competition for example. But I expect this will be resolved shortly. The point is Apple is not behind in ai itself and is actually AHEAD when it comes to an ethical way of going about it. And on-device is definitely the way to go.

  • iOS 26 vs iOS 18: Is Apple's 'Liquid Glass' a true redesign?

I'll take iOS 6 over the rest. Sort of like OSX, 10.6 was the best. Both have been heading downhill ever since. I really don't see how this is considered a redesign, it's just lipstick on a pig as they say.
I’d hardly call the best OS on the planet a pig. But it’s not quite the leap ios7 was. And really, it shouldn’t be. iOS is mostly perfect. So they enhance where they can. I inevitably, such a comprehensive approach will need reevaluation and tweaking and that’s what will get by ios27.

    It’s a comperehensove UI REDESIGN.

but only a partial UX redesign.

It’s enough to call it a full redesign. But it doesn’t fix what’s not broken. So in total, it’s a redesign done right.

  • iOS 26 is here with Liquid Glass redesign, new Camera, and Apple Intelligence promises

The UI screenshots going round look terrible.  A lot of work needed to tone this mess down.

Why would I want to be able to see through my controls?!  The entire idea is stupid.  There had better be a system wide "turn off transparency" option.

Yep, it some places, it just doesn't make sense. A significant backward step in usability in certain areas. But they'll tweak before relaease and in subsequent updates to get it just right. A stronger overlay in Control Center for example, and a more robust blur application. The video player controls are iffy too. I think Apple wanted to make a splash since all their stuff gets copied to death and even Adnroid is looking like iOS these days. Restraint is where Ive shined and something Dye must learn a bit more of on his own journey. I think he will get there. But this overall is a nice look. Just needs to be tweeked and reeled in.

I don't agree with the sentiment.

Liquid Glass is quite different from Aqua.
    Aqua was about being translucent.

With Liquid Glass, the context defines the available functions.
    Quite novel to me.
Nah. It's 100% Aqua. Glass buttons and everything Just updated for 2025, with some additions. It is a much more advacned version of Aqua, but definitely took its DNA from there.

I bet we see the return of some cool features like the light pulse of the affirmative confirmation button, sleep commands, etc. They have been missing for too long.
