  • How to use SVG on the Mac and on the web

I thought that vector graphics (whatever the file format) originated with the use of (drawing or cutting) plotters, maybe in the 1980s.

  • EU pushes forward with Apple antitrust investigation despite Trump's criticisms

A cornerstone of the European market is the "level playing field". Yes, in recent years tariffs have been introduced to prevent outsiders from benefitting from a "tilted playing field" (I have never seen that expression used). Americans may recognize a "level playing field" as included in an expression that should be dear to all of them: "freedom and justice for all".

To me (Dutch), the idea of a "level playing field" is great, along with other concepts of the European project, including diversity and food safety. But yes, it may well be attractive to entrepreneurs to try to turn the protection of the "level playing field" into a means of keeping competition out.

  • M4 Mac mini review three months later: the perfect headless Mac

Yes, the Mac mini with M4 does look appealing.

To those complaining about the Power button: "bottom" is merely the side you have it rest on. Put it on its "plain" side! :-)

Battery: yes, a great idea when using the Mac with an Apple Vision Pro. If none of the USB-ports can be used for charging, I would suggest Apple to implement that. (Converting low-tension DC to high-tension AC and back again seems wasteful to me. Note: "high-tension" and "wasteful" are rather relative...)
This combination of Mac mini and Apple Vision Pro does look like a market opportunity to me. It reminds me of my own combination of a synthesizer with a power bank.

  • iCloud storage leads the pack across Apple's entire services ecosystem

I have raised my iCloud+ space from 200GB to 2TB last week. I want all my Apple devices to have access to "everything". I'm installing the iCloud app on my most recent Windows devices, and I have had iSync Premium on my Android devices for a few days now.

I did hesitate, as I'm also paying for several other cloud services (most of them amounting to 2TB each), but each cloud seems to have its own pros and cons. Like being tied to a given ecosystem or being neutral.

I have noticed that macOS can only sync the Desktop and Document folders with iCloud, but I'd love to have Downloads added. My work-around: creating a Downloads-[computer name] folder in Documents, and agreeing with myself to move everything from Downloads proper to Downloads-[computer name] to have it in my on-line pool.
On the other hand, I may want to move certain folders away from Documents. Think of purchased content related to making music. I'll have to check that.

The freeing of local storage did play a role: I'm considering a 2013 MacBook Air with 256GB in use.

And yes, a "mirrored" situation is supposed to be in place already with my Windows devices and OneDrive.

  • 13-inch iPad Pro review: hardware of the future running software of the past

On the detail of the iPadOS file system: if you prefer to store your own data files (documents) where you want, then just store them in the cloud (including a NAS). You'll be able to access them there from all of your devices anytime (simplisticly spoken).

My personal benchmark file manager (YMMV) still is Total Commander for Windows (I haven't used the Android version in years), but FileBrowser Professional (iOS, macOS) is growing that way.

Zooming out: users of iOS/iPadOS may benefit from experimenting with the Share feature, notably when coming directly from Windows.
