Apple debuts colorful 24-inch iMac with M1, upgraded camera and audio

Qualcomm says its Apple Silicon rival chips will be in PCs by late 2023
This the most interesting potential development in the PC CPU space since Ryzen (potentially more interesting, really).
Qualcomm doesn't have to beat Apple to succeed, they just have to beat Intel. Major factors affecting this outcome include:
1. Do they get strong support from Microsoft?
2. Does TSMC retain the process lead over Intel?
3. Do developers port and optimize?
My guesses:
1. Sort of...
2. Yes.... barely
3. Some key developers do... most second tier don't
And so the result will be:
moderate success, enough to keep trying. -

Trump's 'Liberation Day' tariffs hit every one of Apple's international manufacturing part...
If Trump really sticks to this it will end up being one of the largest and most regressive tax increases in history. It will feel very much like a big sales tax hike to most people.I kind of hope he does stick with it — the people who voted for this should experience the consequences of their vote. -
First Mac Studio M3 Ultra benchmarks significantly outpace the M2 Ultra
Spencer314 said:So, only pay the M3 Ultra if you need a lot of GPU performance, or a lot more RAM than you can attach to an M4 Max (or for some reason need double the displays). The Ultra does so far seem to be most underwhelming part of the Apple Silicon family.
It's not that there's anything wrong with GB6, it's just that it is focused on the performance of a single program using multiple cores. But if you are seriously considering paying the premium for a 32 core processor, there's a good chance that your workloads involve multiple programs running at the same time and/or 'embarrassingly parallel' workloads, in many simultaneous programs (or threads) run independently of each other.
Put another way, GB6 is really more appropriate for mainstream consumer or prosumer users, it's not necessarily the best benchmark for high-end workstation or server type use cases.
Interestingly, GB5 might actually be the better benchmark for people who can really benefit from a bunch of cores. That's because the multicore GB5 just runs multiple copies of the single thread version of the benchmark concurrently, so it is a good test of an embarrassingly parallel workload.
If you look at the multithread GB5, you'll see that the M2 Ultra is faster than the M4 Max, which is not what you see with GB6. -
TSMC delays Arizona plant, blames US labor shortage
quakerotis said:They are FOS. I feel no pain for them. They chose Arizona, which in 5 years will be burned to a crisp and uninhabitable.
And their water demands will only further its demise.
It is also my understanding that while a fab uses a lot of water, it's mostly recycled water. The analogy I've heard is that it's like a swimming pool -- it holds a lot of water, but then it just mostly recycles it.
And in terms of water use furthering the demise of Arizona -- I've read the biggest culprit is ALFALFA farmers. Yes, alfalfa. Somehow, people are growing one of the most water intensive crops there is in the middle of a desert.
Far better to turn those alfalfa fields into solar farms that power a Fab that's filled with water once, and then use the vast quantity of water saved from alfalfa farming to, you know, drink. -

The thing that hurts Meta and X is if you just don't use your account and don't look at any content/ads on their platforms. That's really the key.
